Beginning in 2005, Weyerhaeuser Company began an in-kind program with Cowlitz County United Way to donate used computers. Since the program began, 530 computers have been donated to United Way to distribute to local nonprofit agencies throughout our community. Some of the recipients of these computer systems have been the Cowlitz County United Way partner agencies, Humane Society, Country Run, Oxford House, Goodwill, Human Services Council, Give 2 Troops, Little League and Safe Ministries. Computers have also been given to individuals through disability services. This program has also provided volunteer community service hours for clients of the Drug Abuse Prevention Center through the transporting of these computer systems with the United Way Staff.
To receive a computer from the United Way an individual must be referred by a service agency or a department of the State of Washington. Those individuals that qualify will be placed on a list and contacted when another donation from the Weyerhaeuser Company is received by United Way.
